AGARTALA:
Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA), on September 9, submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan, demanding the nullification of cases framed against party workers.
The memorandum was submitted by TIPRA-Takarjala Political District and Charilam Political District along with its allied organizations.
“Many of supporters /workers of TIPRA were taken to police custody after being charged with false cases, while some of them were released unconditionally, there are a few who have to be released on compulsion from judicial custody,” the memorandum read.
Claiming that there are many cases framed against the party workers at different police stations which are currently under trial before the concerned court of law, the letter further read, “The arrest and producing the arrested supporters/activists of the party before the court of law after charging them with false and fabricated cases is nothing but a clear violation and infringement of the rights of the citizens of the country.”
It also said that the role of over activism of some police personnel is subject to proper investigation.
Notably, TIPRA, led by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma is currently ruling the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Councils (TTAADC).
