SHILLONG:

Meghalaya Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Students’ Union state president Bansharailang Pyngrope on November 4 appealed to the state government to release the umbrella scholarship scheme.

Addressing a press conference, Pyngrope said that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had promised to release the scheme within a week.

“It has crossed that time period,” he said, adding that the government should seriously consider solving the problems of the students.

Pyngrope said that some students will be preparing for their SSC examination, and instead of preparing for the examination, their minds will be occupied with work.

He informed that 10,000 students are eligible to get the umbrella scheme which comes to Rs 5,400 in a month and Rs 64 crores in a year.

“Where is the Rs 64 crores? Is it going into buying students votes instead of giving them their right?” Pyngrope asked.
