Trade body terms price rise as BJP’s jihad against people

The PNG in houses was Rs 28 per unit and now Rs 33 per unit, while in business firms it has increased from Rs 33 to Rs 44 per unit.

AGARTALA:

Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) President Manik Dey in Tripura on Sunday said that the BJP government in the state and at the Centre has declared jihad against common people by increasing the prices of fuel and other essential commodities.

Addressing a press conference this evening, Dey, who is also a former Transport minister, claimed that the BJP government is increasing the prices of petroleum products abnormally.

“They (BJP) have no control over the increasing prices. They have shown their original character. In Tripura, the government has increased the price of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG). CNG price in West district has increased by Rs 8 to Rs 68 per kg while in other districts it has increased by Rs 9.

The PNG in houses was Rs 28 per unit and now Rs 33 per unit, while in business firms it has increased from Rs 33 to Rs 44 per unit.

“On Saturday, petrol was Rs 105.46 and diesel Rs 92.56. The BJP government has announced jihad against common people and they have no responsibility towards them”, Dey said.

The former minister also claimed that prices of more than 800 medicines have increased by 10 to 12 per cent.

“The way the government is increasing the prices of medicines common people will die in the coming days. In the last 12 days, the government has increased the price of petroleum 10 times and even the price of gas. Poor people will suffer more. As the price of kerosene has also increased how will they buy it? There is no work. This is the condition of our state and our country”, Dey told reporters.

He also claimed that around 30 per cent of vehicles are off-road in the country due to an abnormal rise in fuel prices which has not only affected goods transportation but also hit livelihood.
