Tripura CM resigns from RS, to take oath on July 8

Saha met with the chairman of the Upper House and Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi, and tendered his resignation.

AGARTALA:

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who won the recently held by-poll from 8-Town Bordowali, resigned from the Rajya Sabha on July 4 and will take the oath of office and secrecy on July 8.

Saha, who reached New Delhi from Hyderabad after attending a two-day national executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met with the chairman of the Upper House and Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu, and tendered his resignation.

“Today in Delhi, I have submitted my resignation letter to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Vice President, Venkaiah Naiduji, as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. I will always be grateful to my party colleagues and MLAs of Tripura, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party All India President JP Nadda and All India General Secretary BL Santosh for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Chief Minister of Tripura,” Saha wrote on a social networking website.

Saha had been given 14 days to resign from the Rajya Sabha to officially take charge as the leader of the house in the Tripura assembly.

“The Chief Minister has tendered his resignation and he will be sworn in as the member of Tripura Legislative assembly on July 8 at Tripura Legislative Assembly Bhavan,” Ratan Chakraborty, Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly, informed.
