Tripura Left Front meets CS over post poll violence, alleges 150 attacks

Communist Party of India-Marxist state committee secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said the violence started all over the state since June 26 afternoon.

AGARTALA:

A delegation of the Tripura Left Front Committee met with the Chief Secretary of the state Kumar Alok on June 29 to apprise him about the violence that took place across the state since the declaration of the by-poll results.

“We have apprised the CS about the by-poll and the way the poll was held. From the day of poll, a fear psychosis is prevailing across the state and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backed miscreants have unleashed a reign of terror,” Left Front convener Narayan Kar said during a press conference.

The committee said that they have received around 147 complaints of violence across the state. The complaints were of many people being severely attacked, and houses, shops and party offices of oppositions being set on fire. Kar said many shops, houses, and vehicles were vandalized and later set on fire.

“They didn’t even care about people from 8 to 80 years of age, not only men but women also came under attack. People who are engaged with the opposition came under attack. BJP used women for rigging polls and attacking voters. They are attacking the party offices of opposition parties including CPI-M, and BJP. The present Chief Minister is very well aware of how he won the poll. In the name of victory rally BJP is extorting money from the people and from businessmen,” he said.

Kar also lashed out at the police for not taking any steps against the miscreants.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state committee secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said the violence started all over the state since June 26 afternoon.

“From the counting day, a total of 147 incidents took place in which 15 took place in Sepahijala, 22 in South, 2 in North, 1 in Unakoti, 7 in Khowai, 67 in West district, 33 in Dhalai. Violence even took place in such places where polls didn’t hold,” he said.

The Left Front also compared the way things are being run in the state with the rule of Hitler.

They further demanded the CS to direct appropriate police authority to conduct suo-moto investigations in each and every incident of the attacks, irrespective of whether FIR was lodged or not, and to take stringent measures against the offenders.

“Arrange compensation for the loss of properties, expenses incurred in treatment, and for physical impairment under ‘Tripura Victim Compensation Scheme, 2018’ and to stop such mindless barbarous violence, and to ensure peaceful co habitation of supporters of various political parties, the administrative authorities may be directed to call local level all-party meetings condemning such attacks and make an urge for peace,” the Left Front said.

Chowdhury further said on July 2 the Left Front will hold a protest rally and will inform the entire country how BJP is using ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas and Sabka Viswas’ to throttle democracy.

The delegation of Left Front, comprising CPI-M secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, CPI Secretary Judhisthir Das, RSP leader Dipak Deb, and Forward Bloc secretary Dulal Deb, had met with the Chief Secretary.
