Tripura Police arrests one, serves notice to 28 in BJP workers’ assault

Apart from the one person who was arrested, raids are also being carried out to nab other people who were involved in the incidents.

AGARTALA:

The Tripura Police, on August 31, arrested one person and served notice to 28 for allegedly carrying out attacks on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters who were en route to a public rally of party national president JP Nadda on Monday in Khumulwng of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

“It is alleged that supporters of TIPRA Motha attacked the BJP supporters while coming to attend the rally as well as during their return journey. In such incidents some BJP supporters sustained injuries. In this connection total 7 (seven) cases were registered under different police stations in West Tripura, Khowai and Sepahijala districts. During investigation of the cases police served notices under section 41A Cr.PC to 28 accused persons for further legal action,” a statement by the Tripura Police said.

It also said that apart from the one person who was arrested, raids are also being carried out to nab other people who were involved in the incidents.

“Efforts of the police to arrest other miscreants who were involved in the incidents are continuing, and the cases have been entrusted to senior officials,” it read.

The ruling BJP had on August 29 alleged that more than 20 of their party workers had come under brutal attack by Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha) supporters in different parts of the state.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya visited GB Pant hospital to meet the assaulted party workers.

“On August 29 several Bharatiya Janata Party supporters, workers were injured in an attack by miscreants on their way to participate in a public meeting of JP Nadda. I went to GB Pant hospital today and enquired about their treatment. I assured them of all possible help,” he wrote on his social media page.
