Tripura power dept to set up model solar power village

The secretary of the state power department informed that the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited is working on various plans for uninterrupted power supply in the state.

AGARTALA:

Laying stress on the state’s potential for solar power generation, the Tripura Power Department said it will be setting up a model village that will utilise solar power to meet electricity demands.

This was decided during a review meeting of the power department on August 2 chaired by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and power minister Jishnu Dev Varma.

During the meeting, secretary of the state power department, Brijesh Pandey, also informed that the Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited is working on various plans for uninterrupted power supply in the state.

Stating that more sub-stations will be set up across the state by next December, he said that the government has installed 22,500 street lights in the state.

“Installation of more street lights are in progress. 3 lakh study lamps have been provided to the public so far. Till July, 1,057 solar pumps have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum scheme. The distribution of such solar powered lamps and pumps will be completed by February, 2023,” Saha said.

Saha said that the power department is working to ensure uninterrupted power supply, besides modernising alternative means of power generation.

The chief Minister also directed the authorities to take strict action against hook line users if necessary.

“The department should keep an eye on the matter so that the customers are not subjected to any kind of harassment,” he said.

He also said that power sub-stations in the state must be inspected regularly, and maintenance of transformers must also be a regular affair.

Notably, the power department had earlier decided to cover 80 backward villages in rural hamlets of the state with micro solar systems with an investment of Rs 80 crore.
