Tripura records highest temperature since 1960

AGARTALA:

A data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has revealed that Tripura recorded the highest temperature of 41 degree Celsius in the month of April, which is highest ever recorded after 1960.

The IMD also informed that that this year Tripura witnessed -65 per cent shortfall in rain, which is less compared to other years, paving way for dry conditions.

“Generally, Tripura witnesses’ rainfall during these months. But this year the state has witnessed –65 percent shortfall of rain,” an official from IMD said.

The data also revealed that in the year 1972 the state recorded temperature of 38.5 degree Celsius, and in 1979 the temperature recorded was 39 degree Celsius, which were other two years when temperatures had soared above the average mark

Explaining the rise in temperature, the official said that it is due to the decline in rainfall and other factors, that the temperature has increased.

“The situation will remain the same for the next few days. However, by the first week of May, the mercury will dip and settle down somewhere close to 35 degree Celsius,” the official said adding that the people should stay indoors and hydrated.
