Tripura Speaker closes hearing against IPFT MLA, final verdict tomorrow

On the last day of the hearing, the Speaker received an affidavit filed by the lawyer of IPFT supremo Narendra Chandra Debbarma against the MLA for violating code of conduct issued during the Rajya Sabha polls.

AGARTALA:

Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty, on September 19, closed the hearing case against Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), MLA Brishaketu Debbarma, after he had submitted a letter of resignation from the IPFT.

Notably, the BJP and IPFT had formed an alliance before the 2018 assembly election, ending the 25-year long left regime in the state, however as soon as TIPRA emerged as the largest tribal political party and formed council in the TTAADC, Brishaketu submitted his resignation letter before the speaker last year.

Brishaketu had since then been summoned on multiple occasions for a hearing on his resignation letter, but he did not respond.

On the last day of the hearing, the Speaker received an affidavit filed by the lawyer of IPFT supremo Narendra Chandra Debbarma against the MLA for violating code of conduct issued during the Rajya Sabha polls.

“The final hearing on the matter was held today. We have given so many chances to Brishaketu to appear before the assembly. However, after a long time and analysing all the matter we fixed September 19 as the final and last date of the hearing. But the MLA didn’t appear today as well,” the speaker said.

He further informed that the MLA has violated all the constitutional obligations.

“He has closed all his scopes. IPFT has submitted all evidence including documents, YouTube Links, etc., against Brishaketu,” he said.

He however has reserved the final judgment and said, “After analyzing everything, I have taken the decision and probably tomorrow it will be made public. Since I have reserved the final verdict, the written judgment will be out soon. You can say that the matter has been closed today and there in nothing in favour of Brishaketu Debbarma.”
