Tripura urges Bangladesh to set up industries in state

The deputy chief minister also said that Tripura and Bangladesh share a close tie and the potential of tourism in both the state and the neighbouring country is immense

AGARTALA:

Tripura Deputy Chief Minister, on April 17, urged the Bangladesh government to set up industries in the state.

Jishnu Dev Varma, who gave the inaugural speech on the first day of the three-day-long “Bharat-Bangladesh Paryatan Utsav” at the Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala on Sunday, said that if that happens, the economic sectors of both the countries will get a fillip as the state is all set to become a trade corridor for the entire Northeast region.

“We want the Bangladesh government to set up industries in the state. Both sides will immensely benefit from it. Our government is setting up a land port and special economic zone in Sabroom of Tripura’s south district. Our state is all set to become a trade corridor for the entire Northeast region,” said Dev Varma.

He further said that Tripura and Bangladesh share a close tie and the potential of tourism in both the state and the neighbouring country is immense.

“We are close neighbours; not only geographically, but also historically and culturally. To revive the old ties, we are organising such events”, the minister said.

Md Abdus Shahid, MP and chairman of the Committee on Estimates and Former Chief Whip of Bangladesh Parliament, said that tourism plays an important role in boosting the economic sector and such event helps to strengthen the bonding between the countries.

The tourism minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy, who was also present on the occasion, informed that Tripura stands in the second position among Northeastern states where the majority of foreign tourists visiting the state are from Bangladesh.

The three-day event began with an indigenous food festival and cultural events.
