Tripura’s Akshya Shree is among the 75 women who were honoured with the Women Transforming India (WTI) award by the NITI Aayog as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, on March 24.

The NITI Aayog had instituted the WTI award to recognise women who have done exceptional work in the field of entrepreneurship, and other different areas.

Shree was conferred with the WTI award for her start-ups – Silpakarman and BeYouTea – The bamboo leaves tea, besides promoting local products also helps in creating rural employment.

While Silpakarman deals in handmade home and kitchen utility products by over 250 artisans from across five clusters in rural Tripura, ‘BeYouTea’, their recently launched flagship product, engages community members who had lost their jobs due to the Covid pandemic and suffered financial constraints.

On the other hand, Tad Udyog (Silpakarman) is creating a sustainable rural economy value chain system that empowers the communities involved in bamboo plantation and provides customers with sustainable product alternatives.
