GUWAHATI:
The Guwahati city police have seized a 10-wheeler truck bearing Meghalaya registration (ML 10 B 9053) for carrying illegal timber valued at several lakh of rupees from the Koinadhora area of the city, on the night of March 5.
Four persons, identified as Jeibokstar Mawlong (26) from Mawlyndep, Roni Choudhury (35) from Kuwara (Assam), Willson Kurbah (21) and Rishanstar Ryntathiang (19) from East Khasi Hills, have been arrested in connection with the case.
“A 10-wheeler truck was intercepted in a naka at Koinadhora point on Saturday night. During a search, the timber was seized as the driver couldn’t produce any document. The police have also seized the truck,” said a senior police official.
The truck was carrying timber from Meghalaya’s Byrnihat and was supposed to deliver it at Barpeta, sources said.
