TUR leader calls for political transformation in state

SHILLONG:

Thma U Rangli Juki member Angela Rangad has urged the citizens of the state to bring about a political transformation in the state.

In a video release, she criticised politicians hopping from one political party to another and alleged that there are rumours of a lot of money having changed hands.

“It is time that you and I start dictating about what kind of governance, politicians we want,” she said.

“We are now heading towards rampant corruption and criminality. I urge citizens to be observant and call out political dramas.

They are not in your interest or my interest and will not secure your rights and my rights,” she added.

She went on to say that the creation of new posts and political appointment is political opportunism.

Attacking the Congress leaders who joined the state government, she said, “These are self-serving representatives who are trying to secure for themselves positions, perks and power and so we will not take this lying down. It is not true that they need to be in the ruling party to be able to serve the people.”

Of people flagging the illegal coal mining issue, Rangad said, “All the development indicators in the state of Meghalaya are worse than all underdeveloped states in the country be it education, health, livelihood, Meghalaya has been at the bottom because the people have allowed such political class to merge and dictate our lives.”

Taking a dig at suspended Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh who recently made headlines with her “no comments” statement, she said, “All you can is ‘no comments’ when you don’t have an ideological basis.”

Rangad went on to say that the state politics is apparently not based on principles and is making it difficult to have a long-term vision to develop the state in terms of development indicators, safety and security in the state.
