Three villages from the Garo Hills region have been feted for successfully running cooperative societies during the concluding celebration of the 69th All India Cooperative Week in Meghalaya.
A closing ceremony-cum-exhibition was organised by the cooperative department in collaboration with the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, Rural Financing, Megha-LAMP and MBMA at Parade Ground, Tura on November 19 where West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, was the chief guest.
The three best Integrated Village Cooperative Societies, namely, Nangrimesa IVCS of West Garo Hills, Asil Dikkagre IVCS of East Garo Hills and Katchi Garantai IVCS of South Garo Hills received the awards from the chief guest and the 10 IVCS selected as banking correspondents received the micro ATMs.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said that working together as a team has multiplier effect and opportunities of success are enhanced. He also stressed on the need to become self sufficient. Further, while talking about opportunities available in the region, he informed that West Garo Hills has started a mission to become self sufficient by 2027.
During the day long programme, the messages from Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, and Chief Executive Officer of National Cooperative Union of India, Sudhir Mahajan, were read out by the senior cooperative officers, Rakhi Ch Momin and BD Sangma respectively.
East Garo Hills ARCS, R Rymbai, delivered the welcome address and the others who spoke on the occasion included, DM Kharsyntiew, Deputy Registrar, Shillong and Osmond Nongbri, MD, MCAB, Shillong.
The Branch Manager of MCAB, Tura, Barding Marak, proposed the vote of thanks.
