Tura MDC cries foul over `missing’ GHADC museum

The BJP leader questioned how the building was shown as being completed in both centrally-funded projects.

SHILLONG:

BJP leader and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak has accused the government of ‘manipulating’ centrally-sponsored projects in the state saying that such instances are ‘beyond any justification.

Marak on Monday said he found the ‘missing’ Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) museum, which was overlapped by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) building project, at Chidekgre under North Tura constituency which is represented by Thomas Sangma.

“We found the missing museum of GHADC after the RTI was replied to us. When we reached the site, the museum which was supposed to be 80 per cent completed disappeared. Instead, the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) stood there in its place,” Marak said in a statement.

The BJP leader questioned how the building was shown as being completed in both centrally-funded projects.

“When we reached the site, we found the museum was overlapped by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) project. Same building stands there as the GHADC museum as well as the Tribal Research Institute,” Marak said while demanding that such engineering should be applauded with cuffs.

He said he was informed by villagers that the museum was initially there but has been replaced by the Tribal Research Institute, adding that the government overlapped the Tribal Research Institute building over the proposed museum.

The MDC questioned as to how low the government will stoop to make money from major projects sanctioned by the Centre. “Should the State leaders still deny a CBI inquiry?” he asked.

He also questioned as to how the GHADC will submit a utilisation certificate when the museum has disappeared from the site and another project, which is also sanctioned by the Centre, stands in its place.  “So much manipulation is beyond any justification,” he added.

Quoting the RTI finding, he said the GHADC museum was shifted from Tura Sunny Hills to Chidekgre in North Tura constituency.
