Tynsong asks BJP to refrain from unsubstantiated charges

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said he was not sure whether the term to use to describe the BJP’s actions was “back-stabbing”, but that it does seem the party is playing a “double role”.

SHILLONG:

National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has taken umbrage at the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) partner BJP’s anti-government campaign on social media.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said he was not sure whether the term to use to describe the BJP’s actions was “back-stabbing”, but that it does seem the party is playing a “double role”. He, however, said the BJP could not fool the voters by making unsubstantiated allegations.

He pointed out that the BJP along with other parties like the PDF, HSPDP, UDP, NCP were part and parcel of the MDA government.

“We are going to complete our term. If during election one of the partners talks against the another partner I think it is up to the people to judge,” he said.

He said the BJP’s allegation of corruption against the government was merely a political gimmick, adding if the party has any problem it could approach the MDA coordination committee for redressal of its grievances.

“Therefore, BJP also should restrain itself from alleging this and that. You just know how to allege without suggesting the solution. If you allege something then why not come up to the government and say that this is wrong and why not we do this, but it never happened and you talk in the social media which is ultimately I personally feel is only a political gimmick. It is purely a political gimmick,” he stated.

He said the MDA has a platform, or the party could come to him or the chief minister and try and resolve issues instead of taking it out on social media saying that the BJP is the cleanest political party in Meghalaya. “I think that is totally wrong,” he said.

On the recent decision of the BJP central schemes monitoring committee to submit a report on the shoddy construction of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong, Tynsong said although he has nothing to say on the matter but it is important for the BJP to go through proper channel.

“They (BJP) are saying they will monitor the implementation of central schemes, I feel there is no  harm in doing that. I also saw that they have decided to submit a report to Delhi, I will not say anything but ultimately it is important to go through proper channel. Submit your findings and suggestions to the government… it is very important for the BJP to go through the state government. May be they will submit the report to us but I personally feel that they should go through proper channel to the state government, if they have found some flaws that can be rectified,” he added.
