Tynsong downplays Mukul’s letter to PM on smart meter

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power, Prestone Tynsong on Friday said that leader of opposition Mukul Sangma can write to anyone on allegations that there are anomalies in the smart meter project.

On Thursday Sangma wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on alleged anomalies in implementation of the smart meter in the state demanding an independent inquiry into the matter.

Tynsong also said that the government will soon make public the inquiry committee report headed by Justice (Retd) RN Mishra to probe the irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and the Power department.

“We won’t be laying the report in the assembly but we will upload the report of the inquiry committee for the benefit of the citizens,” Tynsong said.

The deputy chief minister said that the officers of the power department are going through the report of the enquiry committee.

“There is nothing serious in the report like misuse of funds or misuse of power,” Tynsong said.
