Tynsong slams AITC over promise of Rs 1K to women after polls

The Deputy Chief Minister said if the TMC was really concerned about the people, it should not wait until after the election to give the money.

SHILLONG:

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong ridiculed the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on January 12 for promising to give women voters Rs 1000 per month following the polls.

Speaking at a party meeting in Polo Ground, Tynsong said, “The TMC had promised to give Rs 1000 per month to the women folk. As a father, I will not allow my wife to take only Rs 1000 per month or what do you say? Therefore, fathers, women and youth should not be fooled as it is a promise made in the air.”

Challenging TMC to implement its promise before the election, he said, “If you are really concerned about the poor people of our state then give (Rs 1000) immediately why wait until after the election? Mamata, you have ruled for many years in West Bengal, so bring your money and distribute it to our poor people, don’t say you will do it after the elections.”

Tynsong recalled the challenges faced by the National People’s Party (NPP)-led government and how it was able to protect the people of the state and also ensure the safe return of over 70,000 students in 2020.

Furthermore, he informed that more than Rs 500 crore was spent during the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, and added, “…some have alleged that all the funds have gone to the pockets of CM and the Deputy CM. Therefore, critics please don’t point fingers at others. Repent and join the NPP so that we can bring more blessings.”

Tynsong expressed confidence that the party will win 35-36 seats in the upcoming elections, and stated, “I invite all critics to keep throwing stones at us, the more you throw stones the more we get motivation because why we are doing right not wrongly.”

“We are shooting 58 arrows and we are likely to miss only 10-15 arrows unlike other parties who are fielding 10-20 candidates and claiming to win from all the seats,” he said.

Urging people of the state to give NPP another chance to lead the state, Tynsong said, “Issues which others are hesitating to take, Conrad K Sangma was the only one who dared to take the decision. Prestone and Sniawbha are getting threatened every day but I say if we die let it be if it is for the good of the state.”

On the allegation related to the border issue, the NPP leader said many have alleged that the chief minister and the deputy CM have sold the lands of Meghalaya and dared them to provide proof. “Because under the first phase of the signing of the MoU, we gained 18 sq km but still we were greeted with slippers and black flags, let God touch their hearts, time is still there for them to repent. Long Live NPP.”
