The Program also saw the ‘School Nursery Yojana’ an initiative to bring students closer to nature

Ri Bhoi:

As World Health Day is celebrated to promote awareness of people’s general health and well-being, Umeit Secondary School in Ri Bhoi observed an awareness programme about quality living and the importance of health.

Every year, a theme is chosen for the day, and this time, it is “Our Planet, Our Health”.

The Program was attended by D. Kharbani Principal of Umeit Secondary School, Office Bearer of the School Managing Committee along with students and parents among others.

The celebration fulfilled its objective of developing a deep understanding of the essential link between the individual and collective health for a sustainable life.

The Program also saw the ‘School Nursery Yojana’ an initiative to bring students closer to nature. The Yojana seeks to engage class VI to IX in raising saplings in nurseries created in schools.

The school was presented with a sapling and a packet of seeds to students for planting in their school.

In this connection, S Mawlong said, “that the school will have 1000 Sampling to plant a tree for sustainable future and to make the school clean and green.”

“We have a high hope that in the next few years, we can get organic vegetables from our own garden, and I want to encourage others also to practice this ‘Kitchen Garden’ in their home,’’ one of the resource people, Kynshew Dapsuk Kharkrang said.

Further urging every student to plant a tree each, Khaekrang said that every school must earmark space to prepare a small nursery where the saplings could be planted.
