SHILLONG:
Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in Ri Bhoi, in pursuit of enhancing education and aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has constructed larger, modernised classrooms to accommodate children during their formative years (nursery to class III).
The classrooms were constructed in collaboration with Bharti Foundation.
These classrooms, known as Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) rooms, emphasise practical activities-based teaching and incorporate Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The FLN classrooms ignite enthusiasm in the children, motivating them to actively engage and strive for the best knowledge achievable through education within the school, a statement said.
The classrooms were inaugurated on Thursday by Mary Lynrah (State Pedagogy Coordinator, SEMAM-SSA & DSEL), P L Nonglait (DSEO, Ri Bhoi), Vincent Nanglang (SDSEO & DMC, Ri Bhoi), Ansumon Gogoi (Project Coordinator, Bharti Foundation Meghalaya), S Kharshandi (Asst. Professor, Shillong College) and Ellika Synrem (BMC, Bhoirymbong Block, Ri Bhoi).
The school strongly encourages students to showcase their talents through exhibitions and by creating models related to various topics. The Art and Craft exhibition is a significant platform provided by the school, allowing students to display their hidden talents and potentially pursue related careers in the future. The School Enterprise Challenge further supports and brings out the best in the students, exposing their talents and encouraging growth.
Additionally, the school maintains a kitchen garden that teaches children about cultivation and harvesting. These exhibitions serve as platforms to showcase not only academic excellence but also the students’ social responsibilities and holistic activities, revealing their hidden talents and skills.
