Unavailability of cashier leaves CBI customers in Nongstoin frustrated

Despite explanations, customers demand a swift resolution and assurance that such incidents will not happen again.

NONGSTOIN:

Customers at the Central Bank of India, Nongstoin Branch faced disappointment on November 24 as they were unable to withdraw money due to the absence of a cashier. Initially informed that the lack of Aadhaar cards was the issue, it was later revealed that the cashier was on leave, leaving the branch unable to process transactions.

An NGO from West Khasi Hills(WKH) intervened on behalf of the customers, exposing the ongoing issue at the Nongstoin Branch. President of Ri Khasi Sepngi Federation, Mawkordor Kharsyiemlieh, expressed shock at the Branch Manager’s suggestion that customers borrow money from her personally. He emphasized that customers were seeking to access their own funds, not applying for loans.

Kharsyiemlieh questioned the Branch Manager’s problem-solving approach and suggested that if the bank cannot provide adequate services, it should consider closure. The Branch Manager acknowledged the staff shortage, citing a resignation and a leave of absence among cashiers, and claimed to have notified higher authorities about the cash shortage.

Despite explanations, customers demand a swift resolution and assurance that such incidents will not happen again. They express frustration and inconvenience, urging the bank to address the ongoing situation promptly.
