Union minister of state for rural development, consumer affairs, food & public distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who arrived in Aizawl for a three-day visit to the state, went straight to Vaivakawn vegetable market manned only by women.
“I have been told about this market manned by women only and eager to see it,” Jyoti said as she interacted with the women vendors.
On the way from Lengpui airport, the Union MoS went straight to the market before checking in at the Raj Bhavan.
Jyoti said she considered herself and ordinary village, not like a VIP, and she felt at home to be among them.
She said Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives priority to the North East India and she made this visit as per the instructions of the PM.
In response to the vegetable vendors’ plea for funds for reconstruction of the market building, Jyoti said, being a minister of state in charge of rural development, she could have made the sanction right away. However, as the market is situated in an urban area, she would extend all possible help under her capacity when project proposal is submitted to the concerned ministry.
After spending a night at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, the Union MoS is scheduled to visit Mamit Aspirational district in western Mizoram on September 14.
