GUWAHATI:
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been declared as a Centre of Excellence by the Resource Centre for United Nations – North East Region.
The letter was handed to USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Haque on January 6 by Dr Aswini Sarma, executive director of Resource Centre for UN–NER, in the presence of vice-chancellor Prof GD Sharma and other officers.
In this regard, Sharma stated that the declaration as Centre-of-Excellence will enable USTM to become a centre of UN activities.
“The university will have a United Nations Reading Library, and it will be eligible to organise UN and UNESCO seminars and conferences at the university; USTM will participate in UN or UNESCO conferences at the state, national and international levels, apart from visits of UN or UNESCO officials to the university”, he stated.
Accepting the declaration letter, Hoque said, “The mission of USTM is to become a world-class university, and such recognitions and honours to the university encourage us to march forward to achieve our goal”.
