Vehicle of Congress leaders vandalised in Tripura by alleged BJP workers

Szarita claimed that democracy in Tripura is in danger and it's being throttled by the BJP-led government.

AGARTALA:

Tensions escalated in the Bishramganja area under Tripura’s Sepahijala district after two vehicles of Congress leaders were vandalised and ransacked by alleged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed miscreants, on July 12.

National Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Szarita Laitphlang said that the incident happened when she along with senior Congress leader and former legislator Asish Kumar Saha came at Bishramganja to hold a meeting with the party workers.

“We came here to hold a meeting with our party block and district president. And while we were on the way, more than 20 BJP-backed goons came and vandalised and ransacked our vehicles. Shockingly, the incident took place in front of the police personnel deployed in the area and they didn’t take any action,” she said.

Stating that it’s very “shameful” that the government has failed to protect its citizens and the law and order situation in the state has gone from bad to worse, Laitphlang said, “Neither did we fight with anyone nor had any altercation. We were just holding a meeting with our party workers and without any provocation, they came and did this.”

Szarita claimed that democracy in Tripura is in danger and it’s being throttled by the BJP-led government. “I urge the people of the state to oust this government. They were constantly threatening us. We have informed the DGP and Chief Minister about the matter,” she said.

Later, in the Sonamura sub-division, the Sepahijala committee workers led by former minister Billal Miah held a protest demonstration protesting the attack on the Congress leaders.
