Chief Minister Zoramthanga later welcomed the Vice-President at the Raj Bhavan and informed him about the Myanmar refugee issue and how the state is providing shelter and food to citizens of the neighbouring country who have fled their homes since 2021.

AIZAWL:

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Mizoram for a two-day visit to address the ongoing budget session in the Assembly, on March 9.

He was received at Lengpui Airport near Aizawl by Governor, Hari Babu Kambhampati, Health and Welfare Minister, R Lalthangliana, and Rajya Sabha member, K Vanlalvena, among others.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga later welcomed the Vice-President at the Raj Bhavan, and had a discussion on the necessity of having a separate “All-India Services” (AIS) cadre to ensure administrative efficiency in Mizoram.

Taking to the microblogging website, he tweeted, “When prominent leaders visit a remote state like Mizoram, despite their busy schedules, it always encourages our zeal for development in the state (sic).”

Zoramthanga also informed Naidu about the Myanmar refugee issue and how the state is providing shelter and food to citizens of the neighbouring country who have fled their homes since 2021.

The Governor of Mizoram hosted a cultural programme in honour of the Vice-President at the Raj Bhavan’s Circular Lawn, where Naidu was greeted with traditional dances by various cultural troupes, including renditions of songs by popular singers.

Notably, Naidu is on a four-day tour to Mizoram and Sikkim and will leave for Sikkim on Friday.
