SHILLONG:
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Shillong, as part of its foundation day and Janmashtami celebrations, organised art and drawing competition for school students and the general public on August 27.
The event was conducted at four schools namely RB Anupchand Higher Secondary School, Keating Road, Gandhi Buniyadi Hindi High School, Golf Link, Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Garikhana, and Step By Step Secondary School, Barik.
A large number of students from different schools and colleges participated in the competition to display their artistic skills and exhibit their talents using water colour, crayons, pencils and other materials.
The participants also got an opportunity to understand art and various and various art forms by being adjudged by instructors from Rama Krishna Mission Shillong.
“Such events must be organised regularly for school students as we get the opportunity to compete and exhibit our works. It is a learning experience for us wherein our inner talents are identified and it motivates us to take up art seriously, “one of the participants told The Meghalayan on the condition of anonymity.
Likewise, speaking to The Meghalayan, one of the VHP members said that such events give students a chance to come in public, become competitive and learn things which form an important part of extra-curricular activities.
Singh informed that the VHP is also organising Fancy Dress and Quiz competitions for students on September 3, wherein a greater number of participants are expected.
The organisation appreciated the young VHP workers and members for their active involvement in organising the entire event successfully despite the bad weather.
