As a mark of protest against the killing of a 28-year-old woman in Riangpoit Thymmai, West Khasi Hills, residents of the area took out a rally on February 21 to condemn the act and demand justice for the victim.
The rally started from Riangpoit Thymmai and ended at the RCLP School Nongthymmai field with a public meeting.
School children, parents, and NGOs attended the public gathering with placards in their hands and shouting slogans to condemn the killing.
Villagers demanded stern action against the criminal(s) involved in the crime while stating that the act has instilled a sense of fear among the locals.
Speakers urged the residents to be united and strengthen the authority of the Dorbar Shnong to mitigate crimes in the area.
On February 14, the women from Riangpoit Thymmai was reportedly raped and murdered while she was on the way to work.
