Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, on May 12, has given the government 48 hours to put job interviews on hold and threatened to agitate if the government fails to do so.
Speaking at a gathering held at the parking lot of the Additional Secretariat, Basaiawmoit called upon the people of the state to support them.
He said, “Issue a notification within 48 hours otherwise we will agitate. We have all along been talking of job reservation policy. We have nothing against the roster system but the issue is with the reservation policy.”
The party gathered at the Additional Secretariat for the purpose of submitting a memorandum to the chief minister regarding the roster system and reservation policy.
He claimed that recruitment is taking place regularly despite the call to revamp reservation policy.
There are many other policies that need to be highlighted also.
VPP MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang said that it is one of the election pledges of the party and a long pending issue for the last 50 years.
Stating that he is not against any community, he said that it is not balanced and affects the Khasi-Jaintia community.
Lauding the leadership of VPP president, Adelbert Nongrum said, “In the presence of a wrong and effective leader we are able to revive restore and transform our beloved state.”
Terming the “reservation policy” and the “roster system” as its ward, he said that the reservation policy is outdated roster system.
He said, “The reservation policy is highly illegal and not passed by a cabinet and it has not received the governor’s assent. We need to turn to the mother which is the Reservation Policy and how is the academic system link to it.”
