SHILLONG:
The Voice of People Party (VPP) Mylliem block on March 2 sent an appeal to the CEO of Meghalaya, seeking a recount of votes for its candidate Aibandaplin F Lyngdoh.
The party had written to the Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor, alleging that there are anomalies in the number of votes polled and votes counted.
The demand for recount has been raised by many parties and their supporters, including James Sangma of National People’s Party (NPP), Congress supporters in Mairang and NPP supporters in Shella.
Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Ronnie V Lyngdoh won the Mylliem seat after defeating his closest rival VPP candidate Aibandaplin Lyngdoh by a slight margin. Sitting MLA Hamletson Dohling of NPP slipped to the third position.
