Water level at Umiam Dam lowest till date, close to shut down: AT Mondal

“There is a permissible limit of the water level upto which we can run our units, so if it goes below, naturally we will have to close down the dam,” Power Minister AT Mondal told reporters.

SHILLONG:

Power Minister AT Mondal along with experts from IIT Guwahati inspected the Umiam Dam on May 16, and said that the water level at the reservoir is at its lowest till date which is 3165 feet, and if the water recedes more, the government will have to shut down the power plant.

“There is a permissible limit of the water level upto which we can run our units, so if it goes below, naturally we will have to close down the dam,” Mondal told reporters.

Informing that load shedding will continue as of now, and maybe with increased hours of power cuts, the power minister said that the situation will improve only when rainfall becomes normal.
