Will resign if accusers can prove govt sold tribal land to Assam: Bajop

Putting across a word of caution to all the Himas against such elements, Pyngrope urged the people to refrain from making false allegations and instead, extend their support to the endeavours undertaken by both the governments in resolving the decades-old border dispute between the states.

SHILLONG:

National People’s Party member of district council (MDC) from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Bajop Pyngrope, has challenged all the accusers levelling allegations on the government for selling tribal lands to neighbouring Assam, saying he will resign from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District council (KHADC) if they can substantiate any of their allegations with proof.

“If they (accusers) have the proof that there has been a transaction of Rs 20,000 crore (as alleged), I will resign as MDC and this is my humble submission to them,” said Pyngrope.

Putting across a word of caution to all the Himas against such elements, Pyngrope also urged the people to refrain from making false allegations and instead, extend their support to the endeavours undertaken by both the governments in resolving the decades-old border dispute between the states.

“We want peace in the border areas and it is high time (as the issue has been lying pending for the past) 50 years,” he said, asserting that the people should support the government in its endeavor to bring an end to this dispute.

The MDC further asked the people who are in the “habit of making allegations” to visit the border areas and know the ground reality and understand the sentiments of the people residing there instead of commenting on the issue sitting in the state capital.
