WKH district police shut down illegal coke plants

No staff or labourers were present during the operations and hence the names of the illegal plants owners could not be ascertained.

NONGSTOIN:

West Khasi Hills district police shut down illegal coke plants operating in the Shallang area. The operation of shutting down these plants continued for two days, December 16 and December 17, under the supervision of HK Thabah, ADC cum SDO of Mawshynrut. A total of 57 illegal coke plants have been shut down.

No staff or labourers were present during the operations and hence the names of the illegal plants owners could not be ascertained.

Notices of closure order were issued by the ADC and has been pasted in each of the 57 plants, seizure of raw materials and finished products as well as generators were seized by Thabah.

The 57 coke plants were operating in an open space without any boundary or gates. Moreover it was found that there is no electricity or water supply connection from any government departments but the factories were operating on powers by generators and water supply generated from bore wells.

Further, officer in-charge Shallang was directed to patrol the illegal coke plants areas at all times as well as to keep a police team at Kyllon Mathei village to block the road leading to the plants to prevent the stealing of seized raw materials and finished products from these illegal coke plants.
