At the DC office's Conference Hall, the delegation—led by Santa Merry Shylla, MLA—met with district representatives and stated that the committee discovered several examples of POCSO and criminality against women and children in WKHD.

NONGSTOIN:

A delegation from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Committee on Women Empowerment on August 17 visited Nongstoin (WKHD) to assess the state of POCSO cases and crime against women and children in the area.

At the DC office’s Conference Hall, the delegation—led by Santa Merry Shylla, MLA—met with district representatives and stated that the committee discovered several examples of POCSO and criminality against women and children in WKHD.

Some of these cases have been resolved, while others are still being investigated or are about to go to trial. The committee has directed government lawyers and the police department to expedite the cases and ensure that the victims receive justice.
The committee also discovered that WKHD is Meghalaya’s second most populous district in terms of POCSO cases. The team asked district officials for clarification on the latest POCSO case in Umsaw village.

The committee has stated that it will investigate these instances and guarantee that such incidents do not occur again. Meanwhile, the committee has instructed the police department, village dorbar, and schools to launch public awareness campaigns concerning POCSO and crime against women and children.

Members of the committee, including Miani D. Shira, Gabriel Wahlang, Adelbert Nongrum, Damanbait Lamare, Marathon Sangma, and Beyondstar Kurbah, also attended the meeting.
