Work on new dome after debris cleared

The new dome design vetted by the two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – Roorkee and Guwahati – was recently approved by the High Powered Committee (HPC) headed by Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma.

SHILLONG:

Construction of the new dome of the under-construction Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang can only start after clearing of the debris caused by the collapse of the old dome in May last year.

The new dome design vetted by the two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – Roorkee and Guwahati – was recently approved by the High Powered Committee (HPC) headed by Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma.

Prior to this, the Speaker had directed the implementing agencies to remove the debris by April 15.

When asked, Deputy Chief Minister in charge PWD (Buildings) Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed reporters that the work for construction of the new dome has started.

“But of course, the contractor is doing the clearing activities of the entire debris. I am very sure in a few months from now they will complete it and they will start again to reconstruct the dome,” Tynsong said.
