Workshop highlight ‘ease of living’ through Aadhaar

Shillong, Mar 9: To promote Aadhaar usages by States, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office Guwahati organized a State Level Workshop on “Deriving Maximum-Impact out of Aadhaar” at Shillong on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Cmde Dhiraj Sareen, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Regional Office Guwahati highlighted the significance and implications of Aadhaar as a tool for empowerment and a symbol of inclusivity. Commenting on the initiative launched in 2009, he stated that Aadhaar aims to provide every individual with a unique, verifiable identity. He further brought out how this has been instrumental in ensuring that even the most marginalized have access to various Govt. services, subsidies and benefits. He assured UIDAI’s continuous support to the state for improving ‘Ease of Living’ in Meghalaya.

Addressing the audience, the Chief Guest for the workshop, Dr Shakil P Ahammed, Addl. Chief Secretary, lauded Aadhaar’s role in streamlining Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for genuine beneficiaries. He thanked UIDAI for organizing this informative workshop and urged the participants to explore ways to improve ease of living and simplifying lives of people.

Dr. Joram Beda, Commissioner & Secretary highlighted that in spite of geographic and logistic challenges, the officials are leaving no stone unturned to enrol the left-out population. Special Aadhaar Enrolment camps have been set up in inaccessible areas, Schools, Anganwadi centres to ramp up efforts to cover the majority of population within a stipulated period of time.

Kapil Jambhulkar, Director, UIDAI, Regional Office Guwahati presented on the progress made by the state in achieving higher level of Aadhaar saturation in short period of time and appreciated the initiatives taken by the Nodal Department (GAD, Govt. of Meghalaya) and the district administrations in achieving an upward trend in Aadhaar saturation despite all the hurdles and challenges and also highlighted key areas to be addressed for achieving greater saturation.

Anshuman Kamila, DBT Mission, Govt. of India highlighted Aadhaar based DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) aims at improving public service delivery to ensure that the benefits are delivered efficiently and timely and also it helps in savings to public exchequer. Officials from Head Office UIDAI, NIC and NPCI also made presentations on various aspects of Aadhaar usage related to the delivery of benefits under Section – 7 and Section 4(4)(b)(ii) of Aadhaar Act 2016, Aadhaar Authentication facilities and Aadhaar enabled Payment Systems (AePS).
