World Consumer Day observed in West Garo Hills

The World Consumer Rights Day was observed at Chinabat Bazaar under Rongram C & RD Block in West Garo Hills district on March 15. The programme was organized by Deputy Commissioner (Supply) West Garo Hills Tura.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Director of Supply, Tura R Boro, highlighted the schemes available under NFSA 2013 and the importance of Aadhar enrolment for transparency for procurement of foodgrains through ePOS device being used at present.

He urged the people to enroll at the earliest so that the seeding of Aadhar with ration cards can be completed at the earliest since the Government has also extended Aadhar enrolment till 31st March 2023.

Meanwhile, Dr. Greena K Marak, Member, State Food Commission, Tura, expressed her gratitude to the concerned department for organizing such a programme and bringing awareness to the people of the remotest village. She also urged the people to be aware of their rights and responsibilities and feel free to seek their grievances for the benefit of all.

Member, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Tura Lunna A Sangma while speaking on the occasion highlighted the rights, duties and responsibilities of being a consumer and advised people not to be swayed away by the cheap marketable products and seek the redressal of the District Commission if need arises.

Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Tura, Tangme Marak, sensitized the people on food safety and urged them to be cautious while purchasing and consuming food products and also gave a brief report on fortified rice and its health benefits.

Officials of the department, Nokma of Timbolgre, Silchichotgre and people of the surrounding areas participated in the programme.
