Yaba tablet worth Rs 5 crore recovered in Guwahati, 4 arrested

As per the police, one of the arrested, Md Islau Uddin, had managed to get a fake Manipur Police identity card to pass through the check gates.

GUWAHATI:

In a huge breakthrough, the Guwahati Police recovered 1 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 5 crore from a dumper at Garchuk, on June 30.

Taking to a micro-blogging website, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, “Guwahati Police strikes again & hits the drug cartels hard! Special Squad led by JCP Partha Mahanta recovered 1,00,000 Yaba tablets from a dumper. The narcotics, worth Rs 5 to 8 crores, were en route to a neighbouring country. 4 traffickers are arrested. Further probe is on (sic).”

The consignment had been brought from Manipur and was supposed to be taken to Mankachar from where it was likely to be transported to Bangladesh.

Four people were arrested and they have been identified as Md Islau Uddin (40) from Lilong, Manipur, Md Aboi (21) from Wangzing, Manipur, Md Sakir Ahmed (27) from Kakching, Manipur, and Md Abbas Ali (27) from Dhumri, Bihar. Along with the contraband, a scooter was also seized from the gang, who are said to have stayed at a rented house at Panjabari.

As per the police, one of the arrested, Md Islau Uddin, had managed to get a fake Manipur Police identity card to pass through the check gates.

All four have been produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Kamrup Metro and remanded to one-day police custody.
