17 ex-Congress MLAs succumbed to money power: AICC

The Congress had suffered a major setback when 12 of its sitting MLAs merged with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) while 5 others went to support the BJP-backed NPP led MDA government.  Out of five, three have joined the NPP while two have joined the UDP.

SHILLONG:

The opposition Congress on January 19 alleged that all its 17 legislators have succumbed to money power.

The Congress had suffered a major setback when 12 of its sitting MLAs merged with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) while 5 others went to support the BJP-backed NPP led MDA government.  Out of five, three have joined the NPP while two have joined the UDP.

Asked on the reason for the MLAs to leave the party, AICC media coordinator Mathew Anthony said temptations and fear are always there.

“What if I put a gun to your head and say if you don’t join me you lose your life. If I put a notice from a central agency and say I am going to put away all your transactions and if you don’t join me a case will be filed against you,” he said.

When pointed out that AITC is not a central agency, Anthony however said that apart from the BJP, the second largest biggest party in the country in terms of generating wealth is the TMC.

He concluded by saying does he even need to indicate that the MLAs are succumbing to money power and that is why they left the Congress.
