TURA:
A quick breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the attack on the chief minister’s meeting with ACHIK leaders at the Commissioner of Divisions office in Dakopgre, Tura, that took place on July 24,with 18 persons in police custody, including two BJP Mahila Morcha women, while two Trinamool leaders who provoked the crowds are also on the run.
Late Monday night, police apprehended BJP Mahila Morcha leaders Belina M Marak and Dilche Ch Marak. As the mob began attacking reportedly on their instigation, police units pursued and apprehended them.
Two Trinamool Congress leaders who were in the throng and encouraged the mob to become aggressive have been identified and are on the run.
One of the ring leaders of the Trinamool has been identified from video footage and eyewitness accounts at the site as Salseng R Marak.
The accused hails from Selsella and had contested the MDC elections of the GHADC unsuccessfully from Siju-Baghmara area of South Garo Hills reportedly on a UDP ticket.
Residing as a tenant in Dakopgre, opposite Gate No 2 of the Doordarshan TV tower, he had applied for a Congress ticket to contest from Selsella in this year’s assembly elections.
The Congress, with foresight, rejected his candidature for Selsella and instead gave it to the nephew of former minister Late Clement Marak. He allegedly joined the Trinamool Congress after the Congress rejection.
The accused is under the radar of wildlife authorities for his alleged involvement in the trade of endangered monitor lizards in an illegal cross border smuggling racket with Bangladesh.
