Guwahati, Feb 24: In a tragic incident, two people were trampled to death by wild elephant at Lakhimpur area in Assam’s Goalpara district on Friday night.
The incident took place at 10.30 pm on Friday.
Sources said among the victims of the incident was Atul Chandra Nath, a resident of Hatgaon, accompanied by an unidentified woman was on his way home on a motorcycle when the elephant attacked them.
According to locals, the duo tried to escape from the elephant attack but they were trampled to death by the elephant.
Meanwhile, the police personnel reached the spot and took away both the bodies for postmortem.
“The elephant comes out from the forest and creating terror in our area for the last couple of days. Last night, the elephant attacked the duo and killed them,” said a forest official.
