2 months dues to be released, looking at revenue generation, says GHADC CEM

Tura, March 11: Hundreds of unpaid employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council are soon to be given two months of pending dues within the next couple of days, even as the council looks to ways to generate revenue to get itself out of debt.

With 32 previous months of pending salaries, the employees are being given the monthly dues for two previous months dating as far back as 2021.

“We were supposed to give them two months of dues in January and February, which is now going to be released. I have already signed on the order ,” said Albinush Marak, CEM of GHADC on Monday.

The employees had gone on a sit in protest, two weeks ago, demanding the council authorities clear their pending dues that had piled up to around 32 months.

But the CEM Albinush Marak clarified that while efforts are on to gradually clear previous dues, from their part they have been clearing the salaries of all the months they have been in office.

“From the time our EC took over we have cleared 34 months of salaries, much more than the time of our tenure. Now it will rise to 36 months with release of 2 months dues,” says the CEM.

He also said that the council is looking at ways to boost revenue generation.

“Normally it is good if we can give salaries from revenue generated by the council instead of waiting for funds from the government. But situation is such right now that it is not happening which is why we are looking at ways to raise revenue generation,” stated the CEM.
