Acting on a tip off, troops of BSF Meghalaya in a joint operation with Meghalaya police seized 3200 bottles of Phensedyl concealed inside the jungle area of Jatrakona under South Garo Hills district on July 23.
The seized phensedyl amounts to approximately Rs 6 lakh.
BSF received information that a huge quantity of phensedyl is hidden in the forest area of Jatrakona for smuggling to Bangladesh through the International Border.
Consumption of liquor is prohibited in Bangladesh therefore this codeine based syrup is high in demand there.
The BSF public relations officer said that, the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh are exchanging monthly data of seizure of phensedyl, drugs and narcotics by respective forces to identify vulnerable routes/patches and make coordinated plans for curbing this menace.
