GUWAHATI:
Senior IAS officer and principal secretary of the Assam government Rajesh Prasad breathed his last at a private hospital in Guwahati due to post-COVID complications on July 24.
Prasad (52) leaves behind his wife and son. He has been undergoing treatment in Swagat Super Speciality Surgical Hospital here since July 22.
He was reportedly suffering from diabetes, liver and kidney ailments.
Hailing from Jharkhand, and an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer of the 1995 batch, Prasad was looking after soil conservation, the Guwahati development department and irrigation among others as the principal secretary.
Condoling the death, Governor Jagdish Mukhi said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Sri Rajesh Prasad, IAS, an efficient administrator, who was serving the Govt. as Principal Secretary in various departments of the State. The State has lost a dynamic and zealous administrator.”
Similarly, taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Principal Secretary Rajesh Prasad, who passed away in Guwahati due to post-COVID complications. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Prasad was also the administrator of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) after the signing of the Third Bodo peace Accord on January 27, 2020. The BTC administration will mourn his demise from Monday.
“We shall remain indebted to senior IAS officer Rajesh Prasad for his role and contribution as an administrator during Governor’s rule in BTC. His untimely demise has saddened us deeply. In his honour, we shall observe a period of mourning at the BTC Secretariat tomorrow,” BTC chief Pramod Boro said.
