70-year-old convicted by POCSO court

The case relates to the morning of  18.06.2021 at 10:30 am when the accused Pranesh Chakraborty Roy of Dobakol, Tura, West Garo Hills, aged about 70 years, had forcibly tried to rape the complainant’s minor daughter in his house.

A 70-year-old man, who tried to rape a minor girl in his house, two years ago, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the POCSO Court in Tura, this week.

The case relates to the morning of  18.06.2021 at 10:30 am when the accused Pranesh Chakraborty Roy of Dobakol, Tura, West Garo Hills, aged about 70 years, had forcibly tried to rape the complainant’s minor daughter in his house.

Accordingly, a case was registered and an investigation was entrusted to Unarmed Branch Women Police Sub-Inspector, Esther Ch. Marak. The investigation led to a charge sheet and after completion of trial, the Court of Special Judge, POCSO, West Garo Hills, Tura found the accused person Pranesh Chakraborty guilty and convicted him under Section 9(m)/10 POCSO Act.

Subsequent to the judgment, the Court sentenced the accused person
to “Minimum imprisonment for a period of five years and fine of Rs. 10,000 for the offence u/s 9(m)/10 POCSO Act.

“In default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo additional simple imprisonment for another three months and for the offence u/s 11(i)/12 POCSO Act, the convict is sentenced to minimum imprisonment for a period of one year and fine of Rs. 2,000. In default of payment of fine the convict shall undergo imprisonment for another one month” announced the verdict.
