ADCs oppose UCC implementation

The KHADC on July 12 called a joint meeting of the ADCs of Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills to discuss the intention of the Union government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country.

SHILLONG:

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pyniaid Sing Syiem has informed that the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) will send a joint resolution to the Law Commission before July 14.

The KHADC on July 12 called a joint meeting of the ADCs of Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills to discuss the intention of the Union government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country.

Syiem added that a copy of the resolution will be sent to the state government.

He said, “We have unanimously taken a decision that all the three autonomous district councils will oppose the implementation of UCC in the state of Meghalaya.”

CEMs of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council were present at the meeting.
