ADCs urge state govt to release funds meant for council on time

Speaking to media persons on April 24, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, said that the delay in the release of funds results in the delay of the implementation of schemes by the KHADC.

SHILLONG:

The Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills have urged the state government to not delay the release of funds to the ADCs.

Speaking to media persons on April 24, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, said that the delay in the release of funds results in the delay of the implementation of schemes by the KHADC.

As for the shares from minor mineral, major mineral and Motor Vehicle Act released by the state government, Chyne urged the government to give the actual calculation of the shares as all this while, the state government releases a lumpsum amount.

“We used to get share from the state government like minor and major mineral share and motor vehicle tax share. But unfortunately, all these years, we never get a correct calculation on how much our share used to be, we always got lump sum amount of share,” he said, adding that atleast the ADCs must get actual calculation.

Further, the KHADC chief said that there was also discussion on the delay in the release of grants under the 15th Finance Commission from the centre, and requested the need to release the funds in time.

The ADCs have also decided to oppose the one-tag scheme by the central government asserting that the land tenure system in the state of Meghalaya is different from other parts of the country.
