North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on January 12 announced that he will soon join the Voice of the People Party (VPP), at a public gathering at Motphran.
“I have served as an MLA for the past five years from the KHNAM (Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement) and we have only been fighting amongst ourselves in the party instead of protecting our community. Hence, I decided to leave. Soon, I will join the VPP party with a belief that the people will give their support,” Nongrum said.
Urging the people to give the VPP a chance, he said, “We believe in actions and not just mere words.”
Nongrum said that he has put forth issues boundary issue with Assam which has existed for the last 50 years, and all the governments have taken the issue lightly.
He also voiced his concern on transparency in recruitment of jobs.
Pointing out that in North Shillong constituency about 11,000 eligible voters did not vote, he urged the electors to vote and contribute in shaping the future.
According to him, all political parties have failed to deliver their promises and the politicians use the young voters to gain votes.
He promised that the party will work towards development and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
“We will shake the Assembly and bring about a change in the state that we are all looking forward to,” Nongrum said.
