AICC seeks adequate security cover for party leaders in Tripura

Szarita Laithphlang said that she herself has received death threats, Laithphlang requested deployment of enough security personnel and escort for herself.

AGARTALA:

A day after two vehicles were vandalised in broad daylight at Bishramganj Bazaar in Sepahijala district, All India Congress Committee Secretary (AICC), Szarita Laithphlang wrote to the Director General of Police, V S Yadav, demanding adequate security for the party programme organised across the state and senior leaders of the party.

Holding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the incident, Laithphlang alleged that the vehicles were vandalised in front of the on-duty police officials who did not take any action against the miscreants.

“It is extremely worrying that the said incident took place in front of on-duty police officers who just stood there as helpless onlookers. It is also to be noted that the PSO of former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha had immediately apprised Bishramganj Police Station about the presence of miscreants which finally culminated in the attack, however, no prompt action was taken by the concerned police officers,” the letter read.

Alleging further that the incidents of violence have increased in the near past and the law and order situation in the state is deteriorating at an alarming rate, she further said, “It is to be noted that on June 6 miscreants vandalised property inside the Congress Bhavan and also attacked Congress leaders. Congress Pradesh Committee President Birijit Sinha was injured in the attack.”

“Such attacks not only create fear and terror among the common public, it also creates an environment of mistrust among the citizens as far as law and order in the state concerned. The Indian National Congress is holding state-wide programmes. However, in the light of the deteriorating law and order situation, it is of extreme importance that urgent action is taken and maximum-security cover is provided for the programme, its attendees, organisers, and the Congress leaders,” Laithphlang reiterated.

Stating that she herself has received death threats, Laithphlang requested deployment of enough security personnel and escort for herself.
