SHILLONG:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former cabinet minister Alexander Hek on October 7 said that home minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who is also in charge of Education department, should resign from his post on moral grounds.
Speaking to reporters, Hek said, “His own party has asked him to step down. I also feel he has to resign on moral ground.”
Commenting on the incident that had taken place in front of the Secretariat on Thursday, he said that throwing tear gas at teachers is very inhuman.
“They are coming with their family and kids and they are going for a peaceful protest, demanding for their rights. They are not carrying anything which is harmful,” Hek said.
When asked if the BJP will withdraw support to the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), Hek got irritated and said that the demand still stands.
It may be mentioned that Hek has been demanding that the BJP should pull out from the MDA coalition.
However, cracks within the BJP camp is apparent as cabinet minister and BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai stated recently that the party will continue to support MDA.
