Another main instigator in Tura mob attack arrested

Salseng, who reportedly encouraged protestors to burn down the ACHIK campsite and target the police and delegation engaged in talks with the chief minister, was discovered hiding in the Damalgre area, outside of Tura, following a tip-off to the police.

TURA:

Law enforcement authorities have apprehended Salseng R Marak, a key figure accused of inciting the mob violence that took place during the chief minister-ACHIK meeting in Tura on July 24. The violent incident resulted in injuries to several police personnel and extensive damage to public property in the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.

Salseng, who reportedly encouraged protestors to burn down the ACHIK campsite and target the police and delegation engaged in talks with the chief minister, was discovered hiding in the Damalgre area, outside of Tura, following a tip-off to the police. With his arrest, the total number of individuals detained in connection with the incident has reached 28.

The accused hails from Selsella and had contested the MDC elections of the GHADC unsuccessfully from the Siju-Baghmara area of South Garo Hills reportedly on a UDP ticket.

Residing as a tenant in Dakopgre, opposite Gate No 2 of the Doordarshan TV tower, he had applied for a Congress ticket to contest from Selsella in this year’s assembly elections.

The Congress, with foresight, rejected his candidature for Selsella and instead gave it to the nephew of former minister Late Clement Marak. He allegedly joined the Trinamool Congress after the Congress rejection.

The accused is under the radar of wildlife authorities for his alleged involvement in the trade of endangered monitor lizards in an illegal cross-border smuggling racket with Bangladesh.
